We arrived at airport around 4:40 am. American Airlines agent got us 1st row bulkhead on TYS to DFW flight and exit row on DFW to PHX fight. Yea! Since AA and US airways had merged and we had 2 legs on AA and 1 on US airways we had to go to both check-in counters (first time we ever had to do that). Couldn't get exit row on PHX to LIH flight, will have to try again once we get to Phoenix. Flight left TYS at 5:55 (delayed 15 minutes). 1st row bulkheads had lots of legroom. Flight was eventful (no bumps) with Kathy snoozing the whole way. The airplane arrived at DFW airport around 7:15. Had to take a 20mg OC, hoe it lasts all day. Flight to PHX left on time with only 3/4 full flight. Exit row seats had lots of leg room, but with the fixed armrests the butt room left a lot to be desired. Flight was a little bumpy most of the way. It always amazes me (and makes me a little jealous) how Kathy can fall asleep so easy whether on a plane or in a car. Started Reading David Baldacci's "The Camel Club". I love the spy, thriller books. I have gotten very god at downloading free books from the Knox County Library. We do love free! Arrived at Phoenix at 8:30 am (10:30 our time). Kathy not feeling well, so she took a Zyrtex for cold-like symptoms. A big thanks to US Airways agent Sylvestre Bryant Jr. for getting us the exit row for free (typically $82@) last minute. Seats 10 A and B are at the main airplane entrance with 4' clearance. This was a super long flight. Longest Alan has been on many years. It was quite painful. We watched Transcendence movie with Johnny Depp. Alan gives 4 out of 10 points. Lunch was expensive, small, not good and rated 2 of 10 points. I just checked on how much longer the flight. 2-1/2 hours... Yikes! It seems like we had been flying for a lot longer. We had to fill out plants and animals declaration form. I brought raw almonds and cashew nuts. Hopefully I won't go to jail for too long. Yeah…they didn’t care about nuts. I did finish reading David Baldacci "The Camel Club".
Arrived 2pm in Lihue a small airport. It is 80 degrees and humid, cloudy with breezes. It was really quick to get the bags. We took the bus to Thrifty car rental, only 1 bus running so it took a while waiting. We rented a Mitsubishi gallant for $208 for 6 days (great price). But for Kathy and I the low to the ground wasn’t fun.
We stopped at Al Pastor fish taco, a food truck in parking lot with 2 other food trucks. Alan had fish taco meal $11 - 2 taco, fish good and fresh, rice was excellent, beans ok. Kathy had 2 shrimp taco $8, rated good. Next door Alan good coconut and pineapple smoothie $6, excellent. Kathy has pineapple, strawberry and lime, too sweet for Kathy, too sour for Alan.
Drove to Cliffs at Princeville RCI condo. Resort on cliffs above ocean. Check in was quick and no timeshare sales pitch. Went to unit 5207 (building 5, 2nd floor, unit 7). The bedroom side was behind pool equipment, so constant pumping noise, while the living room side had a view of the ocean (across parking lot).
Drove down to Hanalei bay and on the way at the 1st 1-lane bridge saw a young, hot girl standing naked beside the road getting her picture taken and didn't have camera or smarts to use phone camera (our 1st adventure of the trip). Toured the "town" of Hanalei looking at the beach and then went to the Foodland of Princeville. Wow, are those prices really high! If Kathy hadn't been sick, we would have stopped at the Safeway or Walmart in Lihue. Kathy's Soy Milk was 1 quart for $4.00.
Note - there is no A/C in room so had to leave screen porch doors open (both ends of unit), but a mostly constant breeze and temperatures in the mid-70's made for a pleasant night. Hoping the mosquito aren't too small, will know in the morning. (Update - no bug bites. Yeah!).
Got in bed around 7pm. Kathy immediately went to sleep. 8pm and I can't sleep yet due to the 0C, it should be wearing off soon. I fell asleep around 9pm and woke up the 1st time around 1am (7am TN time) and then every hour until 5 am.
