Daily Blog -
Up at 5 am blogging the previous day's activities and saving camera photos to the computer. Kathy got up 7am and spent an hour on the phone with France and Dianne. Had minimal breakfast, washed some clothes and around 10:30 headed out for the days adventures.
We stopped Moloa'a Sunrise Juice Bar at for lunch. Alan had the Blackened Ahi Fish Burrito, a Kauai Chai drink (banana, chai, soy milk and coconut) and peanut butter cookie. Kathy had Smoked Tempeh (add cheese, no mayo, toasted bread with butter) and a Pineapple, Strawberry, and Lime Smoothie and chocolate cookie. The burrito was large, but favor was not good. Kathy's sandwich came with mayo, no cheese and no butter. Had to send it back to remake. The Kauai Chai wasn't good and the cookie tasted like sawdust. Kathy's cookie was also no good. As Bob at Allerton said "edible, but not delectable".
Finally off to today adventures - waterfalls. First we visited Ho'opi'i Falls, off Kapahi Road (look for red and silver horse gate). Since it had rained it was super slippery. Luckily we found 3 walking sticks (literally) and they helped us to not fall. Although Kathy was quite scared, but then I made her laugh so hard so peed her pants. Thereafter, we named the falls "Henepipi Falls" (especially after I had to pee down by the falls). It is around 1000 feet downhill to the river and then 200 feet along the river to a modest waterfall. Lots of pictures of the waterfall and trail. Upon returning to the car, we noticed my boots and legs were mud covered. Kathy wore flip-flops (not the best idea), but managed okay. The next adventure was to drive the back roads Kawaihau Road, then Waipouli Road to Olohena Road to Kamalu Road (581) to Kaumoo Road (580) to Opaeka'a Falls. This falls is inaccessible from the road, but had good views. On the other side of the road was a view of the Wailua River with Kayakers making the trek from the mouth of the river up to a place to hike to Secret Falls. It was one of the adventures we decided to leave for a future trip. Then we drove to Wailua Falls at the end of Maalo Road (583). This was also an inaccessible waterfall (at least for us), but it also had great views once Alan jumped over the 4' retaining wall and walked along the edge of the cliff.
On the way back we stopped at Safeway for some steaks, veges, fruit and Crazy Glue (so Kathy could fix her broken big toenail). We were going to go paddle boarding at Hanalei Bay, but it was too late. So, we drove to the nearby Queen's Bath. Parking is very strict on Kapiolani Loop, but luckily we got a space. The trail wasn't nearly as slippery as earlier that day, but still had a few exciting moments. We wore our bathing suits hoping to get in the Queen's Bath, but unfortunately the high tide made the endeavor too dangerous. However, we did get to see 3 more waterfalls.
Back at the condo, we had a nice steak, potato and zucchini dinner.
